The Department of National Meteorology (DNM) being the government\u2019s watch dog on issues of weather and
\nclimate observed the year 2022 to be one with numerous significant weather and climate events. These
\nimportant events did not only mark the variation and evolution of climate in Cameroon but fitted well in the
\nglobal climate dynamics.
\nThe start of the rainy season in 2022 witnessed a normal to late onset in most of Western Highlands, the East,
\nAdamawa and parts of the Centre. Early start of the rains was observed in the South, North, Far-North and
\nparts of the Centre. Worthy of note is this had an impact on especially the Agricultural sector which is 90%
\nrainfed. The late onset in areas was very fast compensated by the continuous and regular rains with little or no
\ndry spells. Extreme rainfall events in several parts of the country resulted in numerous flashfloods and
\nflooding events with subsequent consequences that are well highlighted in this report.
\nThe temperature situation analyzed in the report indicates 2022 as the third coldest year after 2000 and 2001
\nfor the past twenty three (23) years. A general temperature decrease of about -0<\/span>.24\u00b0C <\/span>was observed compared
\nto the 1991\u20132020 climatology. This was much felt in the North and the south of the Far-North regions
\nwitnessing the highest cooling of about <\/span>-0.7\u00b0C<\/span>.
\nThe observation network benefited from the special telecommunication funds with densification of six
\nautomatic weather stations in compliance with the National Development Strategic 2020-2030 implementation
\nplan and development of technological applications to facilitate data collection, treatment and exchange. The
\ncontinuous recruitment and deployment of the young trained technical staff greatly enhanced the data
\ncollection process and extension in the services provided touching a good number of economic sectors.
\nAnother very important development that facilitated work in 2022 was the realization of the climatological
\ndata digitization project by which the historical climatological data of the National Meteorological Service
\nsince colonial time was successfully digitized and constantly updated to enrich the climate database.<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
